Explore the desolate hills and windy valleys of Jomsom and visit the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath on our 6 day Muktinath / Jomsom Tour by Jeep.

Muktinath / Jomsom Tour by Jeep offers you the chance to embark on a journey through the green hills of central Nepal, passing through the lakeside city of Pokhara and finally through the arid valleys of Jomsom to Muktinath. This is one of the most popular tour destinations in Nepal as it offers a cultural, religious, spiritual and adventurous experience, all in one package.

The 6 day trip begins with a short cultural tour around the capital, followed by a drive along the Prithivi Highway to Pokhara. The next day consists of a full day of driving past various Thakali and Gurung villages including Tatopani and Marpha to Jomsom. The few days of jeep ride through the lush green hills, sub alpine forests and the Mustangi landscape, which is reminiscent of the vast Tibetan plateau is sure to be an adventure. Fantastic views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri ranges certainly add to this experience as well. Finally, after a short drive and hike the following morning, you will be at the sacred Muktinath temple.

Situated at an altitude of around 3,700 meters at the foot of the Thorong La pass, Muktinath is a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu of the Hindu pantheon. It attracts thousands of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims every year, who come here to ‘wash away their sins and be liberated’. The Hindu’s revere Muktinath as ‘a place of liberation’ and know it as Mukti Khsetra. Buddhists, on the other hand, consider the murti to be a manifestation of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. Legend also states that Guru Rinpoche, founder of Tibetan Buddhism, meditated here on his way to Tibet. Apart from the myths and legends surrounding the temple and its origin, the points of interest here include the two holy ponds, the 108 water spouts and the perpetually burning flame at Jwala Mai.
The return journey more or less follows the same route as before and offers some more adventure along the barren Tibetan-like landscape. The final highlight of the trip is the morning drive to Sarangkot, followed by a short tour of Pokhara. It is possible to end the trip in Pokhara or continue for a drive back to Kathmandu.

As the trip can be completed in only a few days, Muktinath / Jomsom tour by Jeep is an ideal choice for those looking to enjoy the natural landscape, scenery, religion and culture of Nepal but are short on time. This is also a very easy trip in terms of difficulty, as there is minimal amount of walking involved and most of the travelling is done via vehicle. The only concerning issue might be a possible case of altitude sickness at the peak altitude of 3700 meters or so. However, since we only spend a short amount of time at high altitude, most people manage the trip with no problems.

Finally, the trip can be performed at any time of the year, depending on your preferences. If you wish to experience the best views with clear skies and blooming nature, then spring and autumn might be the best periods for you. Winter is also a good option as you might get to enjoy some snowfall if you’re lucky. Monsoon is generally the period that receives the lowest number of tourists in Nepal due to the unstable weather and rainfall. However, as Jomsom / Muktinath are located in the rain shadow of Dhaulagiri, this tour can be performed in monsoon with no issues.

The drive along the Prithivi highway will give you the first feel of rural Nepali landscape and scenery. We will reach Pokhara in the evening. You can explore the bustling lakeside streets if you wish, but it might be better to just rest at the hotel if it has gotten too late in the day.
